Round 1 - Sahx sweep Twinkies in 3 straight

GAME 1 - Fenway Park
Red Sox 12, Twins 2
Baker vs Jon Lester

Lester went the distance, allowing just 2 runs and fanning 8.  Baker got bombed and never made it out of the 1st inning, recording just 2 outs and giving up 7 huge runs.  J.D. Drew was the only Sox starter without a knock.  Boston banged out 18 hits.  Kevin Youkilis went 3 for 4 with 5 RBI's.  Leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury (3-5) had 3 RBI's himself with 2 long balls.  Boston hit 5 homers in total.  Minnesota got both of their runs via 2 solo shots off of Michael Cuddyer's bat.  The rest of the team managed just 4 hits.

GAME 2
Red Sox 7, Twins 6
Pavano vs Beckett

Josh Beckett was cruising through 6 and handed a 4 run lead over to the Red Sox pen.  Aceves imploded by allowing 4 runs in just under 2 innings of work.  All of those runs came in the top of the 8th.  Jim Thome's 2 run shot got the party started.  Back to back singles by Valencia and Casilla put runners on 2nd.  Aceves bouncing one in the dirt that Saltalamacchia couldn't handle allowed the runners to move up 90 feed.  Dennard Span lined a single to center to score both and tie the game.  Boston, who stumbled down the stretch and blew their chances at the 2011 post season, needed to right the ship and fast.  Since baseball is a game of redemption Jarrod Saltalamacchia got his when he singled home Carl Crawford in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out for a walk off win.  Hang the loss on Perkins and give the win to Bard, who got the final 4 outs in relief of Aceves.

GAME 3 - Target Field
Red Sox 5, Twins 0
Buchholz vs Liriano

The series headed to the Twin Cities, but the Twins' heart never made the trip west.  After coming back from a 4 run deficit in game 2 and losing in walk off fashion, the young Twins had nothing left in the tank.  Clay Buchholz' complete game 5 hitter was the story on the day.  With the Twins down, Buchholz gave them nothing to get up about.  Boston's 4 run outburst in the 3rd was like the final coffin nail in the Twins season, because it all happened with 2 out.  Adrian Gonzalez singled home Saltalamacchia, who previously walked.  Youkilis singled home Pedroia, who was given an intentional pass before Gonzo batted.  Big Papi walked in front of the enigmatic Carl Crawford, who singled home Gonzo and Youk.  The Sahx added a 5th run in the top of the 5th thanks to an error by Casilla at 2nd, but by that point the Twins had their bags packed and the bus loaded.
